Overcoming constraints: designing a multi-tier mezzanine for seamless system integration
Profielnorm partnered with a system integrator on a complex project in Germany. The task was to design, manufacture, and install two interconnected mezzanines to support conveyors and control cabinets.
The biggest challenge in this project was a closed concrete shaft that required four levels of mezzanines with spiral conveyors. Each level needed to be anchored to the concrete walls without using support columns, adding to the structural complexity.
To meet the project’s demands, we proposed innovative solutions. Installation methods were carefully evaluated, ultimately leading to the use of scissor lifts hoisted by external cranes for efficient mezzanine installation and equipment removal upon project completion. All required materials were brought in through the roof, this was a complex unloading situation.
Once the mezzanines were completed, spiral conveyors were installed through the building’s open roof using the same crane. The roof was then installed, sealing the structure.
Profielnorm successfully delivered a tailored mezzanine solution that met the customer’s requirements for supporting conveyors and control cabinets. This project highlights Profielnorm’s ability to execute custom engineering solutions under challenging conditions, ensuring both operational efficiency and structural integrity. Through close collaboration with the system integrator and the customer, we successfully optimised the internal process to meet these demands.
Project highlights:
- Mezzanines: two interconnected mezzanines designed for maximum support efficiency.
- Structural integrity: mezzanines engineered to support conveyors and control cabinets effectively.
- Project components: in addition to the mezzanines, addressing challenges within the closed concrete shaft was part of the project scope.
